MANRAN Shoot

Manran are certainly one of the most popular bands on the Scottish scene these days. They fire up crowds across Scotland and the wider world with their unique mix of trad tunes and songs in both Gaelic & English.

Members Gary Innes, Kim Carnie, Ewan Henderson, Ryan Murphy, Mark Scobbie, Aidan Moodie, and Marcus Cordock joined me for a combination studio and location shoot in Glasgow to get some new band portraits for general promo for 2024.

Having worked with the band before, I already knew most of them fairly well so I knew we would already be comfortable working together. The first 30 or so minutes of my shoots (time dependant), usually is spent getting to know each other a bit and feeling comfortable enough to begin the shoot. This is very important for me and always gets better and more natural results.

We were under the clock a little with only around four hours for studio set up, shooting, studio pack up, travel to location, then shoot at location, so we had to get our skates on. There are seven in the band with outfit changes so this meant we needed to use our time as best as possible.

Shooting with Manran is always a pleasure and a good laugh too. Again, with seven of them I had to also make sure I shot enough RAWs of each position so I could account for people blinking or other un-natural poses, which can also sometimes turn out cool, but you just have to cover your bases and make sure you have enough to work with.

A most enjoyable afternoon and I think we got a good spread of images for the band to work with.
